UPDATE JULY 24

Flatwoods Family,

I hope this letter finds you doing well and remaining close to Jesus.  This next Sunday will mark 10 outdoor gatherings for 2020…that’s hard to believe.  I hope you have enjoyed these gatherings as much my family.  We are planning to gather outdoors for the next 3 weeks.  Mark your calendars.  As always we also have an online option.  We livestream our gatherings at 8:30am.

OUTDOOR GATHERING
Sundays @ 8:30am
July 26    August 2    August 9

As I think about our county and this season the big word that comes to mind is love.  For some this has been an odd, but great season.  However, for many this has been very rough, and I expect this may continue to be true for more and more.  The love of God expressed through the person and work of King Jesus drives how we love.  The Apostle John wrote, “We love because he first loved us.”  We love Stone County because Jesus loves Stone County.   He loves every man, woman, and child in Stone County while calling us to love as he loved.  This will mean a time for us to love one another the way Christ loved us.  At the same time loving your neighbor, co-workers, friends, and strangers with gospel intentionality.  We must discover simple was to display and speak the gospel of grace, hope, and peace.  He is our peace.

As we continue to walk through this season continue to be the church Flatwoods family.  Stone County needs access to the gospel and to the church.  The amazing truth that lies underneath that statement is you have access to the gospel and the church.  So through us others can have access to the gospel and the church.  Be the church Flatwoods Family.

God bless,

Pastor Jonathan

UPDATE JUNE 24

Flatwoods Family,

I hope you have enjoyed our OUTDOOR GATHERINGS.  I think we have discovered a unique way to gather that drives at our purpose and remains safe.  As we continue to navigate all the complexities of COVID-19 and the rise in case, thank you for being understanding and engaged.

We have decided to continue having our Sunday Gathering outdoors for the next three weeks.  We think caution is our best option, and as many of you have said, “Meeting outside has been awesome!”  Here is the info…

OUTDOOR GATHERING
SUNDAY @ 8:30am
June 28, July 5, July 12

Continue to look for our online service each Sunday which will be posted by 12pm.  We will record the service and post online following the service.

As I say often, Sunday is essential but it is not ultimate.  We need Sunday worship, but we also need biblical community.  Many groups have embraced this new normal and established new rhythms for groups…I am so thankful they are leading the way.  I encourage all connect groups to meet in homes, outdoors, or through zoom.  We can not afford to neglect community during this season…we need each other in a big way.

I hope all of you have an amazing week and remember this is your time to be the church Flatwoods Family.

God bless,

Pastor Jonathan

UPDATE JUNE 2

Flatwoods Family,

I am so thankful that we have been able to gather as the church over the past few weeks.  Thank you for being so flexible as we have gathered outdoors.  The church gathered is beautiful and essential.

As you know, our governor has chosen to keep our state in its current phase.  Due to this and advice from health professionals, we are going to remain in Phase 2 for our church family.  In short, this means we will continue to meet outdoors on Sunday morning for the next two weeks.  Below you will see the details, and the date changes.

As we continue to walk through this season, continue to be the church Flatwoods Family.  Love one another, show hospitality to one another, serve one another, and live everyday life with gospel intentionality.  What God has done in you, he wants to do through you.  Be used for His glory!

God bless,

Pastor Jonathan

UPDATE MAY 6

Well, it is a great day!  We can now make progress in gathering in person once again.  We have been praying, planning, and seeking wisdom as we have listened to our state guidelines for places of worship.  Our team has developed a plan we believe is both wise and prudent.  Thank you for praying for us through this process.

We are excited about this plan, and believe it will fit our community and church well.  You will receive guidelines from us for the Outdoor Gathering on May 17.  As for Phase 2, we plan to continue to follow the state guidelines suggested by our governor for places of worship that will best serve Flatwoods and our community.

BE THE CHURCH

As we move through each phase of regathering remember, BE THE CHURCH.  We don’t go to church, we are the church.  We are a diverse family under Christ who gather and scatter so that Stone County can be transformed by Jesus.  That’s not something you go to, that is who you are.  Therefore, let me encourage you to live out Matthew 22:37-40.  Be the church Flatwoods Family!  Please know that I am praying for you and available as your Pastor.  If you have any questions please don’t hesitate reach out to me.  I love you all.

God bless,

Pastor Jonathan

UPDATE APRIL 4

Flatwoods family,

You may remember a prayer we began praying to kick of 2020.  It comes from Philippians 2 and some call it the Christ Hymn.

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that isabove every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of
God the Father.

Flatwoods, think like this.  Think not only about your own interests, but the interests of others.  Let us be people of hope to work hard to remain connected.

Here are a few important updates…

Home worship ONLY through the month of APRIL.  We will provide a Devo on Wednesdays, along with a new sermon & worship online each Sunday.  Be sure to grab the Home Worship Guide for your family.

Easter at the Drive-In  |  April 12 @ 8:15pm

Connect Groups Online. Even though we are unable to meet in person, we are committed to help create live-giving community.  Our connect group leaders are working to set up zoom meetings, so be listening to your connect group leaders.  Don’t have a connect group…fill out this form.

I love you Flatwoods.  We are going to need eachother now more than ever & Stone County is going to need Flatwoods more than ever.  Let us be a church full of hope, peace, and patience as we life everyday life with gospel intentionality!

Pastor Jonathan

UPDATE MARCH 26

Flatwoods family,

We miss you Flatwoods family.  We miss gathering together and worshiping together.  We are really looking forward being the church gathered once again.  Even now I think about Paul’s words in Philippians 1 as he is remembering this church he is “making his prayers with joy, because of his partnership with them in the gospel.”  Flatwoods I love you & your Pastors are truly making our prayers with joy as we have all of you on our hearts!

Here is a quick update a few things and some of our plan for now.

– Home worship ONLY on March 28 & April 5

– We will provide you with a Home Worship Guide, and you can catch a new sermon & worship online Sunday morning.

– We have given our staff the option to work from home.  Please know that we are your Pastors…which means our greatest concern is Christ’s church, Stone County, & the world.  We are here to pray with you, listen, encourage, and exhort.  We also are striving to leverge Flatwoods for the glory of God.  We will continue to do that well as a scattered church.

–  We are thinking creatively about Easter.  As we are as unsure as you are about what will transpire, we are looking at all the options for April 12.

– Thank you for your generosity church!  We know that giving during situations like these becomes sacrificial very quickly.  As always giving is a matter of the heart & a response to the glorious gospel of grace.  You can give online (GIVE), through the mail, or drop your offering of at the office.

I wish I could say this in person, but since I am unable…

I love you Flatwoods.  I truly thank God for all of you.  We are servants of King Jesus, and He desires to work through us for our good and his glory.  Be a church full of hope, peace, and patience as we life everyday life with gospel intentionality!

Love,
Pastor Jonathan

UPDATE MARCH 18

Flatwoods family,

This is really an interesting time in our world.  As there seems to be more questions than answers, I pray that you have truly been people of hope and peace this week.  We have peace because we know the one who is our peace, and the one who brings peace in the chaos.

SERVE OTHERS
There is this line in Romans 12:10 that I love.  “Outdo one another in showing honor.”  Now is the time to do just that church.  Call, facetime, text, or a simply write a card to someone.  You could run an errand for someone, take someone a meal, or buy a family a bag of groceries. “Outdo one another in showing honor.”  If you could use a hand in any way, fill out this form.  We are working hard to serve one another.

SUNDAY GATHERING
I want you to know that your pastors are continuing to assess the situation before us.

At this time all Flatwoods activites are canceled through March 28.

We have chosen to take things one week at a time.  We will continue to provide a livestream service each Sunday.  Please check-out our livestream service page, as we strive to make Sunday as interactive as possible.

GIVING
Although we will not be gathering on-site this Sunday, we can still be obedient to God through giving.  You can give online (GIVE), through the mail, or drop your offering of at the office.  Thank you for your generosity that allows Flatwoods to fulfill the mission of seeing Stone County transformed by Jesus.

READING TOGETHER
I am really excited about this piece.  I would love for Flatwoods to join together in reading the Gospel of John.  Here is our reading plan for the next 4ish weeks that will take us through Easter.  On top of that, all of my teaching will be from the Gospel of John.

Remember, we are a diverse family under Christ who gather and scatter…let’s be a really good scattered church!

God bless,
Pastor Jonathan

ON-SITE SERVICE CANCELED
March 22 & 25

UPDATE MARCH 16

ON-SITE SERVICE CANCELED

Due to the current situation, we have canceled all Flatwood activities, services, and events for March 15 & 18.  Please check back for more information in the coming days.

SUNDAY NIGHT GROUPS

We know that gathering in large groups is not best for Flatwoods and our community at this time.  However, we think a great option for Sunday night would be smaller groups.  We encourage those who are up for it, to share a meal together, discuss Sunday’s teaching, and pray together.  This is a great way for us to experience the church scattered.

If you want to host a group, here are a few things to help you out…

Remember

Please show caution if you are planning to gather with a small group.

— Wash your hands frequently

— Stay home if sick

— Refrain from large gatherings and be wise
